Being a new mom can sometimes feel like an endless cycle of feeding baby, changing baby's nappy, constantly giving of yourself, and quite often, feeling as if you're not getting anything back in return.
Could you think of anything better than being in a quiet, warm room, just you and your baby, gazing into each other’s eyes, chatting and getting to know each other in the most intimate of ways... through loving touch. Infant massage is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of providing early nurturing contact and loving touch to a new baby and has been confirmed, through research, to be the most powerful element in human bonding.
Frederick Leboyer once wrote that, "Being touched and caressed, being massaged, is food for the infant; food as necessary as minerals, vitamins, and proteins. Deprived of this food, the name of which is love, babies would rather die. And often they do."
The importance of nurturing touch as well as a secure, loving environment is well documented in it aids in the healthy growth and maturation of children. These studies have also shown the many developmental benefits of positive contact as part of a baby’s early life. By mastering the skills of infant massage parents can enhance the bond with their baby allowing them the endless benefits of skin stimulation.
We are a proud member of the International Association of Infant Massage. Promoting nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research so parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community.
